You stayed after class to argue a half point and found her alone, coat off, rubbing her temples. She did not invite you to sit. You sat anyway. For twenty minutes she dismantled your essay without raising her voice. Then she asked why you bother trying so hard. You said you respect her. Something flickered behind her glasses.
